For individuals living with bipolar disorder, their families, and the researchers and clinicians who care for them, BD2 is a driving force accelerating discovery, strengthening clinical insight, and translating science into meaningful improvements in care.

Building on learnings from the development of Aligning Science Across Parkinson’s (ASAP), and working alongside scientists, clinicians, and people with lived experience, philanthropic investors united with in 2022 to establish BD2: Breakthrough Discoveries for thriving with Bipolar Disorder.

Today, BD² operates as a global, collaborative research initiative focused on closing fundamental gaps in the understanding of bipolar disorder. Through an integrated approach that connects discovery research, large‑scale clinical data, and real‑world evidence, BD² advances insight into the biological mechanisms of the disorder and the factors that shape clinical outcomes.

With more than $105 million committed to the field, BD² supports a growing network of experts, institutions, and clinical sites working together to generate high‑quality data, share findings in real time, and accelerate progress from discovery to care. This coordinated effort is expanding what’s possible for bipolar disorder research and creating new opportunities to improve diagnosis, treatment, and long‑term outcomes for people living with the disorder today and in the future.
